Changing Professions

The in The Sewers allows the player to change professions. After donating 10,000g, the statue requires the player to choose one skill to change. That night after the player goes to bed, the Level 5 «Choose a profession» screen will appear, followed by the corresponding Level 10 «Choose a profession» screen for the skill selected at the statue.

Only skills for which professions have already been chosen will appear in the Statue’s menu. As soon as the player chooses a profession to change, the bonuses for existing professions disappear. Skills that gives bonuses to sell prices will not apply to items placed in the shipping bin the day the profession is changed.

Minerals

This tab keeps track of the type and amount of Minerals collected. Entries are added when the mineral is taken into inventory. The mineral does not need to be donated to the Museum to be registered.

Note that minerals found in may not appear as found on the collections tab. Dragging the mineral outside the inventory window and allowing it to be taken back into inventory may correct this. Holding the mineral in inventory overnight may also correct this.

Note also that minerals’ descriptions appear on the collections tab as soon as they are found, even while the inventory description says «Gunther can tell you more about this if you donate it to the museum.»

Title Screen

Title Screen Secrets

  • Clicking the letter «E» in the game name ten times will show an alien open a door behind the letter. It will smile and wave for two seconds before it fades away. Note that this does not work in Chinese.
  • Clicking the leaves ten times will cause three Junimos to appear in the logo and wave.
  • Clicking the lower right screw on the letter «W» ten times will cause several butterflies to appear.
  • Clicking the bottom-left corner of the title box a few times will pick up a little happy face. You can click the hole in the R to place it, which will cause foliage to appear around the title box and birds to fly out of it.
  • If you use a controller, pressing B on Xbox or O on PS4 will cause the clouds around you to move at a rapid pace. Only works where the two birds are flying, and stops upon the menu coming down.

Upgrades

You can upgrade your tools at the in exchange for gold and metal bars, with upgrades taking two days to complete. During the upgrade, you can’t buy anything or ask Clint to break open geodes. Tools must be upgraded in ascending order of materials; for example, a copper tool can’t be upgraded directly to iridium.

Tips:

  • The practical meaning of an upgrade «taking two days to complete» is that you will wake up on two successive days without your tool. You may use the tool during the day, then take it to the Blacksmith (before it closes) to upgrade. The next day you will be without your tool. The following day, you must travel to the Blacksmith to pick up the tool, and can use it for the remainder of the day.
  • When a tool has completed upgrading, a message will appear in the lower left corner of the screen when waking up for the day.

50 Friendship Points

After earning 50 Friendship points with the Dwarf, enter The Sewers. A Stardrop must have been purchased from Krobus.

Details
Dwarf finds Krobus in the Sewers and blames the Shadow People for the death of their family. Krobus retorts by saying that he only resorted to violence after the dwarves drove them from their ancestral homeland. Krobus gives an apology for what happened to Dwarf’s family but Dwarf doesn’t accept it. They both start fighting. The player descends into the Sewers and gets between them. Dwarf yells, «Let me at him! He’s despicable.» Krobus retorts, «Come and get it, shrimpy.» Suddenly, the Wizard appears and stops the fight. He reminds them that «The Elemental Wars have long been finished» and tells them to make peace for the sake of the humans that live around them. Dwarf consents to this and promises to stay away from the sewers. Krobus once again apologizes for the past and states that he has no personal gripe with Dwarf. The Wizard casts a ‘Seal of Promise’ to finalize the agreement.

References

  1. Crab pot contents are determined by CrabPot::DayUpdate. For mariners, there is no chance of junk, and all creatures are equally likely. For non-mariners, there is a 20% chance of junk, then each creature is checked sequentially using the chances specified in Fish.xnb. One result of this algorithm is that the actual chance of finding a given creature is smaller than the value in the input file, because it can only be found if junk items and all previous creatures failed their tests.
  2. Clams are not categorized as Fish by the game. Therefore they cannot be used in Fish recipes, do not benefit from Fishing price bonuses, do not show up in the of the collection tab, and do not count towards the four fishing .
  3. In the game data (ObjectInformation.xnb) the type assigned to Seaweed and Algae is «Fish», but it is not assigned the Fish category (-4). The label displayed in-game and most uses are controlled by the category.

List of Quest Items

Quest Items are items that do not have any use outside of their intended quests, aside from occasional easter eggs.

They cannot be sold. If a quest item is lost, it can be retrieved from the lost & found box in Mayor Lewis’s house.

Image Name Description Quest

Wriggling Worm It’s a wriggling, wet worm.
Pirate’s Locket It’s an old pirate’s keepsake.

Notes

  1. first in the player’s inventory
  2. then in the main refrigerator
  3. finally in any Mini-Fridges
  • When auto-sorted with the Organize button, this bottom-right-first order will automatically consume lower quality items of the same type. However, for recipes with substitutes, place ingredients accordingly as desired towards the bottom right, in order to avoid using more valuable ingredients in less valuable recipes, or in recipes that accept a wide variety of ingredients. As an example, Tuna (which is required for Fish Taco) is accepted in Sashimi which accepts any type of fish. However, by placing a Mussel in the bottom right slot, the Mussel will be picked first and save the Tuna for the more exclusive and valuable recipe.
  • When searching multiple Mini-Fridges, the game picks from the last placed one in the exact chronological order in which the fridges were first placed, and then works backwards. The location of the fridge in the farmhouse does not matter.

Foraging

Main article: Foraging

Foraging skill is increased both by gathering forage items found on the ground throughout Stardew Valley and by chopping down Trees with an Axe. Each foraging skill level adds +1 axe proficiency.

Experience Points

Experience points (XP) are granted as follows:

  • 12 XP for chopping down a tree with an axe (granted all at once for the last chop that causes the tree to fall).
  • 1 XP for removing the tree stump after chopping down a tree.
  • 25 XP for removing Large Stumps and Large Logs.
  • 7 XP

If the Gatherer profession doubles the foraged item, another 7 XP is granted for the duplicate item.

for each foraged item picked up from the ground.

  • 3 XP for each Spring Onion harvested from Cindersap Forest in Spring.

The 7 XP for foraging items applies solely to those items visible sitting on the ground that are picked up only if the player clicks on them; it does not apply to items lying on the ground (e.g., dropped by shaking) that are automatically added to the player inventory by magnetism. Specific items that do grant 7 XP include:

  • Standard randomly-spawned foraged items throughout Stardew Valley.
  • Items grown from Wild Seeds (except if in a Garden Pot, in which case 0 XP).
  • All items foraged from the Beach.
  • All fruit collected from the Farm Cave, if the fruit bat option was selected.
  • Truffles.
  • Forage items spawned on the ground in the Mines and Skull Cavern, namely Red Mushrooms, Purple Mushrooms, and Fiddlehead Ferns.

The following Items do NOT grant any foraging experience:

  • Trees felled by Bombs (however, weakening a tree with bombs before felling it with an axe will still give full XP).
  • Blackberries and Salmonberries from bushes (whether picked by the player or shaken loose by animals).
  • Grapes grown from Grape Starters.
  • Items dug up from artifact spots, such as Snow Yams and Winter Roots.
  • Items grown in Garden Pots.
  • Mushrooms collected from the Farm Cave if the mushroom option was selected.
  • Mushrooms obtained from chopping or tapping a Mushroom Tree.
  • Non-forage items spawned on the ground in the Mines and Skull Cavern, namely Quartz, Earth Crystals, Frozen Tears, Fire Quartz, and Dinosaur Eggs — except that a causes any duplicates created by the Gatherer profession to give 7XP.
  • Forageables obtained from killing Monsters.
  • Gingers dug up from the ground

Marriage

Main article: Marriage

Once married, Leah will move into the farmhouse. Like other marriage candidates, she will add her own room to the right of the bedroom. She’ll also set up a small area behind the farmhouse where she’ll sometimes go to work on a sculpture.

On rainy mornings, Leah may offer you a gift she found while «mushroom-hunting»: Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Red Mushroom, or Morel. On mornings when Leah stays indoors all day, she may offer you Coffee or a gift grown in «a little pot out back»: Wild Horseradish, Daffodil, Leek, Dandelion, Cactus Fruit, Fiddlehead Fern, Spice Berry, or Sweet Pea. She may also offer you a Salad on days when she stays indoors all day. On New Years’ Eve (Winter 28), she’ll give you a bottle of Wine.

Weapon forging

A melee weapon (dagger, hammer, or sword) can be forged up to three times to improve its stats. Each forge costs one gem and 10/15/20 cinder shards depending on the forge level.

Using a Diamond as the gem fills all remaining forge levels with random upgrades, but only consumes 10 cinder shards.

Gem Effect
Amethyst More knockback (adds 1 per level).
Aquamarine More critical hit chance (adds 4.6% × level).
Emerald More weapon speed (adds 2 on the first and third level, 3 on the second level).
Jade More critical hit damage (adds 10% × level).
Ruby More damage (adds 10% × level to both min and max damage).
Topaz More Defense (adds 1 × level).
