Plants vs. zombies heroes

Trivia

The zombies’ almanac section on PopCap Games’ website (some zombies are not included)

The zombies’ burnt animation

All the zombies (some zombies are behind the Gargantuar and Giga-gargantuar).

  • Imps in I, Zombie are the weakest zombies in the entire game, taking 50 damage per shot.
  • There are also Ducky Tube Zombie versions of Flag Zombie, Conehead Zombie, and Buckethead Zombie zombies and ZomBotany zombies except for Squash Zombie.
  • Other zombies encountered in or out of the game include Chinese zombies, Zombie Worm, Queen Zombies, Sunflower Zombie, and Vampire Imp.
  • The hand of a normal Zombie can be seen popping out of the grave on the main menu when Adventure Mode is loaded, followed by an evil laugh except in the iOS or DS versions.
  • Zombies’ surprise attacks appear in Night, Pool, Fog, and Roof levels; in the first, they come out of the graves; in the next two, water in the right four columns of the pool, covered in seaweed, and are functionally the same as Ducky Tube Zombies. In roof levels, they are dropped by Bungee Zombies onto the slope of the roof, and appear and function the same way as normal, Conehead, or Buckethead Zombie. In all four cases, with the notable exception of Whack a Zombie (and Level 2-5) and Level 5-5 (includes Grave Danger if including Limbo Page games), they appear only at the end, during the last flag in a level, including every other wave in Survival: Endless. Zombies popping out of graves can be stopped by planting a Grave Buster on the grave, making the grave disappear. Ambush zombies popping out of the pool can be prevented by planting or waking up an Ice-shroom so it explodes after the huge wave of zombies starts to appear on the right of the screen, but before the ambush zombies appear. Ambush zombies dropped by Bungee Zombies can be stopped by planting an Umbrella Leaf within one square of where the zombie appears.
  • The only zombies encountered in the gameplay that do not have the word «zombie» as the last word in their name are Backup Dancer, Zomboni, Zombie Bobsled Team, Zombie Yeti, Dr. Zomboss, Gargantuar, Giga-gargantuar, and Imp.
  • In the iOS and Android Versions of Plants vs. Zombies, the zombies are slightly shorter and have more strands of hair on their abnormally large heads.
  • Balloon Zombies, Digger Zombies, Catapult Zombies, Gargantuars and Imps have different heads than a normal zombie.
  • There is a glitch in the DS and Mac versions where almost all types of zombies require a few more points of damage after losing their heads before they fall over.
  • In the end of the trailer of the DS, the Zombie Horse appears; the Zombie Horse also appears in the same video as one of Dr. Zomboss’s failed attempts to make a tiny zombie.
  • Zombies can fully eat non-defensive plants in approximately two seconds.
  • When the player kills the last zombie in a level, only the head will be shown falling down, while the body disappears.
  • Frozen zombies (slowed zombies by a Snow Pea, Ice-shroom, or Winter Melon) on versions with higher quality graphics (PC, iOS, Xbox 360, PS3) have a lighter blue than on DS and DSiWare versions.
  • Hypnotized zombies turn around and have their entire body mirrored, as a Backup Dancer that has lost its right arm may appear to have lost its left arm.
  • In the DS versions, the zombies’ teeth are bigger than other versions.
  • None of the zombies, aside from the regular zombies and their headwear variants, follow the standard zombie type.
  • The flag zombie is replaced by a Zombatar created in the PC, PS Vita and GOTY versions.
  • Zomboni, Digger Zombie, flying Balloon Zombie, Zombie Yeti, Bungee Zombie, Catapult Zombie, Gargantuar, Imp and ZomBotany zombies are the only zombies who have their own burning animations.
  • When the player kills a zombie without an instant kill and detonates an explosive plant right next to it, its headless body will be burnt and disappear without any animation.

Trivia

  • In an interview with The Verge, Executive Producer Curt Bererton said that «Figuring out a core combat that would allow players to defend their towns in interesting ways, while also being a truly fun standalone experience, took a lot of iteration. We prototyped 11 different variants of combat: some were very traditional path-based tower defenses where the zombies did not attack the plants, but we felt this lost some of the appeal of the original game.»
  • Even though Plants vs. Zombies 2 is considered to be the sequel to Plants vs. Zombies, this was the second Plants vs. Zombies game released.
  • During the time when the game was first released starting on June 10, 2013, users that play Zuma Blitz (another Facebook game created by PopCap) who try Plants vs. Zombies Adventures will recieve a pack of 25 Zuma Blitz Candy Leis for free.
  • PopCap gave the users 100,000 gems as a gift for the game shutting down.
  • This is the first game that introduced human characters other than Crazy Dave on-screen.
    • Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is currently the only other game to introduce human NPCs other than Dave
    • However, the Plants vs. Zombies Comics do feature other human characters.
  • This is the first, and so far only game, to not have Flag Zombie in it.
  • This is the first game not to have Dr. Zomboss in it. He would have most likely appeared had the game not been shut down.
  • An art style similar to this game’s was used in an early stage of Plants vs. Zombies Heroes.
  • One of the Zombie Groans used for this game was used for the Pirate Seas zombies.

Overview

The Zomboni absorbs 1350 damage per shot and his appearance changes upon absorbing 450, 675, and 1350 damage per shot, with heavy shaking and smoke at 1350 damage per shot before exploding. The Zomboni crushes plants and leaves a trail of ice that cannot be planted on. When he gets killed, he explodes (the scorched animation plays if killed by Cherry Bomb, Doom-shroom, or Jalapeno). Chomper will skip the animation. However, the explosion deals no damage. The wheels can be destroyed by Spikeweed or Spikerock, leading to a one-hit kill. While it will destroy the Spikeweed instantly, it will take 9 impacts to destroy Spikerock.

Overview

There are many different plants, each with different abilities and special attributes. During Night, sun does not fall from the sky, so mushrooms are usually used because of their low sun cost. In Pool levels, plants must be either Aquatic or planted on a Lily Pad to be in the water. Fog levels are a mix of night and pool levels but also have fog in the level, which can be removed temporarily with a Blover or removed with a Plantern or Torchwood until the end of the level or whenever the plant is removed with the shovel or eaten/destroyed by zombies. On the Roof, plants require Flower Pots to be planted on before planting the actual plant. Also, the roof is slanted to make the levels harder by making most of the projectiles hit the slanted part of the roof instead of the zombies, so catapult plants are used. A Night Roof setting exists, which is where the player fights Dr. Zomboss.

On the top of each seed packets, there is a phrase: «Bloom and Doom Seed Co.» (except in the Nintendo DS, Nintendo DSiWare, Android, and iOS version of Plants vs. Zombies), «BLOOM & DOOM» being a name that PopCap brainstormed when they were looking for names for Plants vs. Zombies.

About

For more information about this character, see Chomper.

Chomper was released on October 7th, 2014 along with the Big Wave Beach Part 1 teaser Piñata Parties, and was available for purchase at $4.99, but was reduced to $0.99 in 8.3.1 due to lack of use/power.

Chomper can devour most types of zombies, instantly killing them in the process. However, after eating an enemy, Chomper will require a large amount of time to devour the victim, making him vulnerable, exposing itself to other zombies’ attacks in the process. When faced with inedible targets such as tombstones, mechanical threats, and Gargantuars, Chomper will instead attempt to damage them with his bites.

Its digest time was reduced to 17 seconds from the original game, and he can now bite certain targets to deal damage, dealing 200 damage per shot worth of damage each. It can also eat two zombies now.

It is featured for free in Big Wave Beach — Days , , , and Modern Day — Day 44.

Chomper cannot devour, but can damage the following zombies:

  • Gargantuar variants
  • Barrel Roller Zombie’s barrel.
  • Imp Cannon
  • Zombie Bull and Rodeo Legend Zombie
  • Pianist Zombie
  • Mecha-Football Zombie
  • Robo-Cone Zombie
  • Disco-tron 3000
  • Zombie King
  • Cavalry Zombie
  • Fisherman Zombie
  • Zombie Chicken and Ice Weasel
  • Solar Car Zombie
  • Treasure Yeti
  • Cardio Zombie
  • Z-Mech
  • #caketank
  • Zcorpion Zombie
  • Roman Caesar Zombie
  • All bosses

Trivia

  • If Chomper is smashed, his flattened sprite will always have no zombies or arms, and will have an open mouth regardless of whether he was chomping a zombie or not.
  • If Chomper is planted directly in front of a bobsled and Chomper eats the bobsled before it breaks, he will instantly devour all four zombies inside, saving lots of time.
  • According to the Plants vs. Zombies website, Chomper costs 175 sun, while in-game, he actually costs 150.
  • Chomper’s Almanac entry states that he was going to be a movie star, explicitly referencing the movie Little Shop of Horrors

On the Nintendo DS, iOS, and Android versions of Plants vs. Zombies, his Almanac entry says «Hollywood» instead of «The Little Shop of Horrors.»

, this may be due to the fact that Chomper resembles Audrey II, the carnivorous monster plant from that movie.

  • Chomper, Sunflower, Peashooter, Repeater, Wall-nut, Tall-nut, and Cactus are the plants that appear on the start menu, but in this art, he has no spikes on his head.
  • In the art cover of the Plants vs. Zombies Original Soundtrack, he is visible singing along with the Squash and Sun-shroom. This version has three spikes on his head, while the in-game Chomper has four.
  • When a Pole Vaulting Zombie (while it still has its pole) runs into Chomper (not chewing), he will attempt to chomp, but fail to catch the vaulting zombie. This is not the case if Pole Vaulting Zombie is slowed down enough to be eaten.
  • If player pause the game and exit to the main menu while Chomper tries to devouring Gargantuar then loads the saved game, the Chomper will appeared as if he has already «devouring» some zombie, this is most likely a programming glitch.
  • In the PC demo version, when Chomper eats a zombie, the player will hear the noise when a zombie eats a plant alongside his normal biting sound.
  • According to the Tree of Wisdom, Chomper and Wall-nut were roommates in college. This is an obvious reference to their efficient synergy.
  • If an Imitater is transformed into a Chomper, the zombie arm in his mouth will appear monochrome,
  • The idea of Chomper was inspired by the movie Swiss Family Robinson, Plants vs. Zombies creator George Fan’s favorite movie. The idea was from a tiger in a hole that would eat pirates.
  • Chomper is nicknamed «大牙» (lit. «big tooth») in Plants vs. Zombies: Journey to the West.

Интересные факты

  • Художественный стиль для этой игры изначально должен был быть тем же, что и в Plants vs. Zombies Adventures, но в конечном итоге принял более мультяшный художественный стиль, напоминающий стиль Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time.

Plants vs. Zombies.

Trivia

  • The game was only available in China, similar to the Chinese version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 and Plants vs. Zombies for mobile.
  • Plants and zombies show detailed health bar on their head when they get damaged. Armored zombies like Bucketheads show separate blue bar that shows the armor’s health. Zombies and defensive plants still visibly degrade when damaged enough. Boss zombies have a large health bar at the top-right corner of the screen.
  • Ancient Egypt is extremely different from its counterpart version in PvZ2

This area’s normal level music is completely different from Plants vs. Zombies 2, but Ultimate Battle and Brainiac Maniac music are identical to their Plants vs. Zombies 2 counterpart. This is also the only area to have Ultimate Battle and Brainiac Maniac music.

, both in appearance, and music.

  • Some music from the first game appears again here, for example, during the Boxing Minigame you can hear the Loon Boon theme in-game.
  • The second beta added a PvP mode, Racing Minigame, and Soccer Minigame.
  • The seed packets are blue and they are at the top of the screen, similar to the first game

More recent versions of the game seem to have more of a variety of colors, like orange, purple, green, and white. These colors represent the number of upgrades the seed packet has from the Greenhouse.

    .

  • There is a research area and PvP mode, similar to Chinese PvZ2 and Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars, but unlike the other Plants vs. Zombies games.
  • Players no longer need to click to collect sun, they can just hover the mouse over them to collect it.
  • The main game interface is a little similar to Plants vs. Zombies Adventures, as the player can unlock places like Institutes (pubs, supermarkets, etc.). There is also a garden in where they can plant plants.
  • The player can now can choose one plant from other players before a level starts.
  • The player can upgrade plants now. (e.g. plant Peashooter on Peashooter to create a Repeater).
  • In PvP and garden missions, the player can select a group of either plants or zombies for an RPG turn-based battle.
  • Pirate Seas and Far Future are currently the only worlds that have the Gargantuar and Imp variant.
  • Stinky the Snail makes a cameo in this game from Insaniquarium and the original Plants vs. Zombies, appearing whenever the game is loading.
  • For some odd reason, there were soundbytes from Angry Birds in the game. This could have possibly been a glitch or a placeholder.
  • The game allows the player to hold up to four Plant Foods at a time. Unlike Plants vs. Zombies 2, the game still allows the player to collect a Plant Food after this limit is reached, but doing so will waste the collected Plant Food.
  • As in an update, the game now plays the Modern Day theme, Neon Mixtape Tour Ballad jam or Zen Garden theme in the town area.
  • Some time after the game closed, a group of Chinese players managed to get their hands on the game’s source code and posted it on Pan.Baidu.com. On February 26th, 2021, a user on this very wiki, Map220v, managed to find the download link on Baidu and has since been working on fixing the game. The game is still currently in a broken state but it’s fixed enough to be partially playable. It is unofficial.

Concept art

As seen in earlier concept art for the game, the player was going to fight against aliens rather than zombies. This concept is used from another PopCap game, Insaniquarium. Some sketches show plants that did not appear in the final version. It also suggests that Jalapeno was going to be bound to the ground. Some of the plants that have not left the concept stage are: a carrot plant, a small cherry (similar to Cherry Bomb), what seems to be a dandelion, a Venus flytrap plant (that seems similar to multiple Chompers), an unknown plant with a gun and an unknown plant with tentacles (possibly a predecessor to Gloom-shroom).

Plants vs. Zombies: Kingdoms

These plants were planned to appear in a Chinese-exclusive game Plants vs. Zombies: Kingdom Edition, but were scrapped along with the game. Some of them returned in Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars. From left to right, top to bottom, translated from All Stars, their names are: Morning Glory, Pineapple, Blueberries, Ball Cactus, Apple, and Pomegranate.

Gameplay

The player’s goal is to defend their house by unlocking and upgrading their plant types. Plant types are plants that attack differently from each other. For example, Repeater and all his varieties deal ranged damage to single zombie, while Chomper and their varieties breathe fire to deal damage to all zombies in close range. All plants attack automatically, killing zombies coming from the bottom of the screen. The player can also tap on the screen rapidly to increase plant types’ firing rate.

Zombies are divided into waves, between which the player’s house is fully restored. Some waves are boss (or Brainiac) waves, which feature one tough zombie to defeat. For each killed wave, the player receives coins and golden leaves, while boss waves also grant chests. Coins are used to upgrade plant types damage, while golden leaves are used to unlock new plant types.

Upgrading plants with coins grants the player silver leaves, which are used to upgrade plants’ passive traits.

Each plant type has 4 varieties, ranging in power and passive traits. Varieties are unlocked and upgraded via puzzle pieces, which can be found in chests and through watching ads.
