Trivia
- There is a glitch similar to the glitch from the Centurion, where when you are vanquished by the Blazin’ Blast, the «Vanquished by» area says «Flame Spray» instead of «Blazin’ Blast.» Flame Spray is the primary weapon of the Fire Chomper.
- This may be because the developers might have used the original coding for the Fire Chomper’s Flame Spray to make the Blazin’ Blast.
- This glitch can happen if the player attacks a zombie with Torchwood’s primary weapon after damaging them with Blazin’ Blast.
- This is the only plant class to have abilities that deal fire damage.
- He looks very similar to (and is likely inspired by) Giga Torchwood.
- In the cutscene that plays after being evacuated from the landing zone, Torchwood’s arm can be seen visibly clipping through Crazy Dave’s RV.
- He and Hover Goat-3000 cannot be spawned as AI in Solo Ops
Although this can be solved by, spawning another character, then switch, afterwards respawn as him, then switch back.
.
- He explodes and disintegrates when he is KO’d, like Rose.
- This also means that Torchwood, like Rose, is never seen in his ragdoll form.
- In the same fashion as Rose becoming a small rose, he becomes a mini stump when he is KO’d.
- Even though he is always on fire, he does not actually deal fire damage unless he is using one of his abilities.
- When revived, the fire on his head is mysteriously gone. It will return while Smoldering Madness is in use, but will disappear again after it’s done.
- When compared to Giga Torchwood, Torchwood is half his size.
- It was confirmed in a tweet by Creative Director Justin Wiebe that there will not be any variants, customizations or gestures for Torchwood, along with Hover Goat-3000, due to them being bonus classes.
- However, this is proven false due to the December 2018 Update adding 3 customizations for Torchwood: Tree-X-1000, Sugar Plum Fury and Gingerbark House.
- Datamining has also found an ability for the Torchwood similar to that of the All-Star’s Sprint Tackle called Sprint Smash Weapon.
- The Stickerbook description references «Purgatory.» In Catholic Doctrine this means a place or state of suffering inhabited by the souls of sinners who are expiating their sins before going to heaven.
- His crosshair most likely resembles the top of a tree stump.
- From December 6th 2018 onward, both Torchwood and the Hover Goat-3000 can be purchased in the Torch and Tail DLC Pack.
- Its ability Leaf Shield resembles and shares a name with the Leaf Shield ability from Mega Man 2.
Development
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare was presented for the first time at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2013 as part of the presentation given by the Electronic Arts (EA). The game is developed entirely in the EA game engine Frostbite 3, and supports Mantle «out of the box.» The game was first announced for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, later it was reported that it would also be available for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
Downloadable content
Six packs of free downloadable content have been released.
- Garden Variety Pack: The Garden Variety pack featured the introduction of ‘Gnome Bomb’, the addition of the ‘Chomp Town’ map, over 100 customization options were added, and Zombie Pirates.
- Zomboss Down Pack: The Zomboss Down pack featured the introduction of the ‘Cactus Canyon’ map for ‘Gardens and Graveyards’, 8 new characters and increased levels for every character, and new customization options. This DLC came unexpectedly early and surprised a lot of fans.
- Tactical Taco Party Pack: The Tactical Taco Party Pack featured the introduction of the ‘Jewel Junction’ map for Xbox platforms, after being a timed exclusive on PC, the new ‘Vanquish Confirmed’ game mode, two new characters sponsored by Aquafina FlavorSplash, a new 8v8 playlist for ‘Mixed Mode’, 8 new special waves and One new challenge for ‘Garden Ops’. This also introduced 5 nerfs and 4 buffs. This also fixed an exploit where the Sun Pharaoh (a new character that arrived in the Zomboss Down DLC that shoots in bursts of 3) could rapid-fire by pressing LB without letting go.
- Suburbination Pack: The Suburbination Pack featured the introduction of the ‘Crash Course’ map, the new ‘Suburbination’ game mode, new boss characters, Special Waves, and challenges for Garden Ops, blinged-out customization packs for all characters, and the new ‘Plasma Pea’ character, designed by the winner of a competition.
- Cheetos Pack: The Cheetos Pack, available with specially marked Cheetos bags in U.S. Target stores, featured the introduction of two new character variants, the ‘Chester Chomper’ and the ‘Dr. Chester’, based on the Cheetos mascot, Chester Cheetah, as well as new cheesy-abilities for both character classes. The characters and abilities were released to all for free later on.
- Legends of the Lawn Pack: The Legends of the Lawn Pack featured seven new character variants, including the ‘Centurion’ and the ‘Jade Cactus’, new customization sets and AI consumables, new Garden Ops waves, the ‘Taco Bandits’ game mode, and hack the Triangulabobers in ‘Garden Ops’; also includes the ‘Suburbination Pack’ for PlayStation consoles. This also introduced 5 nerfs and 6 buffs. Due to Garden Warfare 2 being in development, this was the last DLC pack released.
Trivia
- He is the only base character to have a one-word primary weapon attack.
- It is a coincidence that him and his zombie arch-nemesis counterpart, All-Star, has the highest health and is the only one without an ammo count on each other’s respective character group (however, this is only the case in Garden Warfare, as some Citron variants and all Super Brainz variants have unlimited ammo.) However, the All-Star and its variants, as well as some of the Chomper’s variants, have an overheating mechanism which prevents them from using their primary weapon extensively.
- According to Justin Wiebe, there was originally going to be a Bling Chomper variant in Garden Warfare, but it was dropped for being too underpowered.
- He cannot eat certain zombies and instantly vanquish them, like Coffin Zombies and Outhouse Zombies. Instead, their armor will be broken, but the zombies will stay alive and Chomper will have to take time to eat the armor just like a normal zombie that has just been eaten. Chomper also cannot eat bosses in Garden Ops
However, he can still illogically eat the mini-bosses such as Dino King, Elder King, Garbage King, and Pyre Prince even though they were not meant to be eaten.
, for obvious reasons.
- In GW1, him and his variants are the only classes that have the ability to penetrate improvised zombie armor with their primary weapon.
- Despite the weapon upgrades being called «Chomp’s Upgrades,» they actually upgrade he himself rather than his chomp, this is also true for most of his variants.
- All of his upgrades are similar to the special abilities of three of his variants (speed upgrade is like Hot Rod Chomper, health upgrade is like Armor Chomper, and digestion speed upgrade is like Chester Chomper)
- When a Chomper tries to Chomp a player whilst they are turning around, he will Chomp the player from the front. This is obviously intentional as there is a special animation for this happening to each zombie class.
- He is the only plant to start with its Y or Triangle button ability.
- All of his variants with melee attacks are all Super Rare, while Chomper’s variants with a spray attack are Rare.
- When he swallows a zombie, the zombie will remain alive for a split second after being swallowed. This is because once a zombie is swallowed, it will be dealt over ~2000 damage to instantly kill it. If the player looks closely after swallowing a zombie, the damage indicator will show up bearing a number over 2000.
- He now has the most variants in Garden Warfare 2, having a total of 11 variants.
- In Garden Warfare 2, when he is vanquished, he frowns more than he does in the first game.
- He is one of the two classes in Garden Warfare to have a Legendary variant in the sequel, the other being the Scientist.
- In Garden Warfare 2, every one of his variants now have the health they possess with health upgrades.
- He has been slightly re-designed in Garden Warfare 2, as his mouth isn’t quite as wide as it was in Garden Warfare, which makes the Chomper look more similar to his appearance in Plants vs. Zombies 2.
- If a Chomper Goops a zombie player and that zombie is vanquished by an ally, the Chomper can receive 10 coins or 10 exp for a Goop assist.
- If he is vanquished whilst in the middle of the animation when eating a zombie, the zombie that was being eaten won’t die
Trivia
- Foot Soldier is missing a shoe, just like many other classes. All-Star and Imp
If the player looks closely, the stock of the gun is a boot. This boot might be the one missing from the zombie’s foot.
are currently the only zombie classes that have both shoes on.
- Foot Soldier’s helmet resembles the real-life M1 helmet, which was issued to United States military personnel between 1941 — 1985.
- Like Team Fortress 2’s Soldier, Foot Soldier can also launch himself into the air using a rocket.
- On the box art of Garden Warfare, the Foot Soldier can be seen with a pair of goggles on his helmet. However, these goggles don’t appear on the Foot Soldier in the game, nor are they a customization.
- Originally Foot Soldier was going to be a SWAT zombie but this was changed due to not being «funny enough» as quoted by Justin Wiebe.
- Foot Soldier has the most Super Rare character variants, with a total of four.
- There is a glitch that the Foot Soldier can do with the ZPG. If the Foot Soldier launches his ZPG just before a Chomper comes out of his Burrow and eats him, he has a chance to vanquish the Chomper while it’s about to eat him, leaving the Chomper vanquished and the Foot Soldier alive. The ZPG must be timed at the exact right time for it to work.
- In Garden Warfare 2, his helmet has a net over it, and its straps are now brown instead of green.
- In Garden Warfare 2, Foot Soldier’s Z on his belt was changed from yellow to brown.
- In Garden Warfare 2, there is a robotic zombie similar to the Foot Soldier called Robo-Zombie. It appears in certain special waves of Garden Ops, as well as the Foot Soldier Wave of Flag of Power.
- The Pyre Prince (Centurion) and the Chieftain (General Supremo) are the only characters that are based on Foot Soldier variants.
- As of November 1st, 2015, the Foot Soldier was ranked the #1 most used zombie class in Garden Warfare.
- If you go on the multiplayer portal against an AI Foot Soldier on Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, the Foot Soldier will either be called Sergeant Jargon or Private Puddles.
- He has corporal ranks on his sleeves.
- Foot Soldier is the only character class in Garden Warfare 2 to return from the original Garden Warfare that didn’t receive any new abilities, counting bling abilities.
- Peashooter has Dark Bean Bomb and Bling Gatling, Chomper has Chomp Cannon, Rainbow Warp, Twilight Warp, and Vampweed, Sunflower has the Rainbow Flower, Cactus has Pizzazzling Potato Mine, Red Artichoke Drone, Dark Garlic Drone and Bling Maiden, Engineer has the Big Bolt Blaster and its bling variant, Scientist has Heal Beam of Science and Armored Bling Station, and All-Star has the Future Dummy, while Foot Soldier received no new abilities.
- Ironically, as said earlier, the Foot Soldier is the most played Zombie class in Garden Warfare as of November 1st, 2015.

Abilities

---|---|
Chili Bean Bomb | The Zombies often confuse the Chili Bean with Brainz, racing to eat it. It has a short fuse and deals massive damage to all nearby Zombies. |
Sombrero Bean Bomb | Nothing says «hot» like a Chili Bean wearing a sombrero! The fuse is quite long, but the damage is mighty impressive. Timing is the key with this fun friend. |
Center abilities | |
Pea Gatling | The Peashooter can dig into the ground and root himself in place, turning himself into a Pea Gatling. He can deal more damage, but is vulnerable to attack. |
Retro Gatling | Retro Pea Gatling uses the ancient Peashooter techniques of manually cranking out peas. Although it has a slower rate of fire, the peas are ancient and far more damaging. |
Right abilities | |
Hyper | When a Peashooter uses his Hyper ability, he will not only run incredibly fast, but can also jump extremely high. |
Super Pea Jump | The Super Pea Jump allows the Peashooter to get atop places he was unable to reach before, but at the tradeoff of speed. |

Primary weapon
The All-Star’s primary weapon is the minigun-like Football Cannon. It is capable of shooting footballs at a high rate, dealing 4-9 impact damage and 5-10 critical damage based on distance. Since the Football Cannon has unlimited ammo and never reloads, it can be fired for extended periods. However, firing it for too long will make the Football Cannon overheat and become momentarily unusable, putting the All-Star in a vulnerable state. It takes about one second for the All-Star to rev up the weapon before it can fire (which can be avoided by zooming in before you start firing), and takes another second for it to fully stop firing. Firing the Football Cannon also reduces the All-Star’s movement speed. These traits mean that the Football Cannon is not a weapon that you want to be caught out of position with.
