King

Strategy

Overview

Stove Face’s respective «Arrow Rain» Splash Attack and «Knife» Magic Projectile and Air Projectile make him a member of the fan nicknamed «Arrow Rainers». Bland and common characters that show off nothing special at all. They are painfully below average, and are not unique, unlike the characters below them. These are the aforementioned Stove Face, Thief, Peasant, Civilian, and Open-Faced Gray Knight.

Castle Crashers

Below average character because of their splash being delayed enemies can often just slip through without getting hit. It’s bad in almost every situation you use it in. The only notable use is stunning beefies in order to start juggles.

Arena

One of the worst characters for arena because of their splash being delayed it barely hits opponents, and isn’t reliable for resets.

Information

Background

Peasants first appear playing instruments in Barracks where the player dances until being interrupted by the slain Gray Knight in the opening sequence. Outside the castle, a couple of Peasants are seen running away from Barbarians on the Home Castle level. Next, it is assumed that the Skeletons in Lava World are resurrected Peasants that Necromancer summoned to attack the player. Later on, a couple of Peasants are seen near The Sailor and Traveling Salesman at the Dock. On the Pirate Ship level, a Peasant is seen up in the crows nest using a Telescope, the same exact one that the player previously acquired from the Industrial Castle. On the Marsh level, multiple Peasants are seen dead while the remaining ones fight alongside the player after they’ve seen the player’s courage in battle against Skeletons and Snakeys. Afterwards, a Peasant and a Civilian will watch the player fight the Corn Boss on the next level (note: you can get the peasant and civilian into the fight by standing beside them and waiting for the corn boss to pop up). Finally, after the player has killed the Evil Wizard in the Final Battle and sat through the end credits, some Peasants are seen playing instruments in the Barracks again.

Trivia

  • Fencer and Industrialist are reskins of each other.
  • Fencer is widely considered the most powerful character in the game, in Castle Crashers, along with Industrialist.
    • They have the most powerful Splash Attack out of any character in the game.
    • They also have the Splash Attack with the most number of hits out of all characters in the game.
  • Fencer, Industrialist, and Killer Beekeeper’s magic jump is the equivalent of an obstacle in Alien Ship. Killer Beekeepers uses Bees instead of buzzsaws however.
  • Fencer can be used to earn «The Traitor» Achievement/Trophy by defeating the Industrial Machine.
  • NPC Fencers have the ability to throw Bombs freely; which deals the highest amount of damage out of all of the other NPCs to have this ability.

Types of Magic

Elemental Magic

Each elemental magic has its own special effect:

  • Fire: Burns a target, inflicting steady fire damage over a short time.
  • Ice: Freezes the target, immobilizing them for a short time.
  • Electricity: Shocks a target, stunning them for a short time.
  • Poison: Poisons a target, causing it to suffer steady poison damage over a short time.
Note: Certain enemies are weak or strong against certain elements, or take more or less damage from certain types of elemental attacks. The use of elemental magic is usually reserved for the four starting knights (Green, Red, Blue and Orange Knights). However, a few other characters can also use elemental magic, or a hybrid of elemental and non-elemental. Cult Minions are immune to all elemental magics and take 1 damage with no effect or knockback.

Non-Elemental Magic

Non-elemental magic is generally not resisted by enemies and has no particular strength against some of them. However, some non-elemental magic attacks have special properties, such as King being able to heal himself or Pink Knight stunning enemies.

Refer to the following list to see which type of magic each character is included in:

  • Fire: Orange Knight, Fire Demon
  • Ice: Blue Knight
  • Electricity: Red Knight
  • Poison: Green Knight
  • Non-Elemental: Peasant, Civilian, Thief, Stove Face, Open Faced Gray Knight, Barbarian, Pink Knight, Bear, Saracen, Fencer, Industrialist, Brute, Snakey, Skeleton, Cultist, King, Killer Beekeeper, Ninja, Necromancer, Hatty Hattington
  • Hybrid: Iceskimo, Alien, Blacksmith, Conehead, Royal Guard, Gray Knight

Notes

  • The Fencers and Industrialists are notorious for spamming their Bombs at the player(s). The Fencers deal a whopping 364/486 damage per direct hit, more than the Industrialists. They use these effectively for shutting down infinite juggles.
  • At the end of this level, you acquire the , the third and final relic required to proceed past the Dock level.
  • The turrets that shoot Poison goo do not inflict poison DoT if you get hit.
  • Completing this level on Insane Mode, assuming that you’re playing the PlayStation 3, Steam, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch versions of Castle Crashers, will unlock the Skeletal Hands Splash Attack character Necromancer. This level is the most challenging level that includes an unlockable character.

Trivia

  • In the startup video, Red Knight is the only one not seen using a weapon.
  • Red Knight’s «Thunderbolt» Splash Attack shows the bones of the enemies being electrocuted. Also, the Red Knight unlocks the Skeleton, which is coincidental.
  • On the Xbox 360, players can dress up their avatar as the Red Knight by purchasing both the helmet and tunic in the Avatar Store.
  • In Back Off Barbarian, the Red Knight’s mouth is similar to the :3 emote. Civilian’s character portrait has this emote, too.
  • Red Knight appears as an icon in the XBLA version of Castle Crashers, as well as formerly appearing in the small link of Castle Crashers on Steam.
  • In addition to this, Red Knight also appears in the loading screen in the Remastered versions of the game, as well as in Back Off Barbarian.
  • When Red Knight is poisoned, his Splash Attack will appear tinted green.

Use

To use a sandwich, select it in the usable items menu, then press the / button. While in Beefy Mode, players can deal increased melee damage and can move specific heavy objects. The effect lasts only for 10 seconds.

Players must be beefy to:

  • Move a large boulder in the Tall Grass Field that leads to Burly Bear and the Fish weapon.
  • Open the gate in Lava World.
  • Fight the Volcano in Lava World.
  • Open the front door to the Industrial Castle.

While under the Sandwich’s effect, the player can:

  • Run through the spiky traps after the poison gas projectiles easily without getting knocked back in Industrial Castle.
  • Windmill the Necromancer and Conehead Groom infinitely, but only on the PS3 version, where the player does not get off the ground after getting in a few hits.

Information

Background

Saracen is found in the Desert Chase, Sand Castle Interior and Sand Castle Roof levels. There is only one Saracen in the Desert Chase Level, multiple in Sand Castle Interior (including a beefy version) and the most in Sand Castle Roof with the presence of another beefy version in the volleyball game.

Involvement

The Saracens are not connected to the Evil Wizard or the Ice King, or any other bosses for that matter. They appear to be very territorial in nature though, and not welcoming at all to outsiders. However it is apparent by the map the player wins at the end of Sand Castle Roof that they are expert cartographers. It is possible that the one seen in Desert Chase was scouting out the Alien Crash.

Description

A middle eastern character. Saracen is an Arab or Muslim, at the time of the Crusades. He wears a turban, has purple irises in his character portrait, a beard, and wears a brown tunic. He is possibly the most unique character in the game, with his odd Splash Attack and Magic Projectile. His Air Projectile allows for a safe technique where the player flies with Slowfall above the enemies, then uses the Air Projectile to bring enemies up to them, so they can be juggled for a brief moment. Keep in mind that this technique is not as efficient as traditional juggling. Overall, Saracen while not excelling in anything that will make his journey easy, shares the uncommon trait with Bear and Red Knight on killing enemies very quickly. However, due to Saracen not having a true Magic Projectile, he is considered to be one of the hardest characters in the game for his niche purpose, along with Green Knight. If played right, Saracen has a decent Insane Mode game plan.

Trivia

  • This item can be found in unlimited supplies during the Lava World level at the metal gate and the Volcano miniboss. Fire Demons will repeatedly spawn and drop sandwiches until the player opens the gate or kills the Volcano.
  • Despite their powerful effect, Sandwiches are often considered a disadvantage; as they make the player an easy target.
  • The player’s shield is unaffected by the sandwich.
  • This item is often called «Toast». This may be because on a low definition TV, the icon appears to be a single slice of toast instead of a whole sandwich.
  • This item is often called a «Knuckle Sandwich», most likely originating from the threat: «I’m gonna give you a knuckle sandwich!».
  • This item is often referred to as the «Beef Sandwich» because it makes the player beefy.
  • It appeared in Fleeing The Complex as an item in solo mode where Henry Stickmin becomes beefy and knocks out 2 of the guards before reverting back to normal and getting kicked by the 3rd guard.
  • This item may be a reference to the Heavy in the game Team Fortress 2.

There is also the voice line for the Heavy, «Sandvich make me strong!» The beefy effect given by the sandwich is a possible reference to this voice line.

The Heavy can use the Sandvich to heal himself.

Playstation 3

Castle Crashers was released for Playstation 3 on August 31st, 2010. It was the first port of the game ever released, and included various improvements to the game as well as exclusive features.

On Release

The following changes are exclusive to this version:

  • Abnormally fast light attack and heavy attack speeds while on the ground.
  • Volleyball mini-game.
  • Higher prices for the Gold Skull Mace, NG Golden Sword, Chainsaw, Dragonhead, and Pelter found in the Insane Store in an ascending order.
  • The 2×4 is not present in this version without hacking.
  • Can’t Stop Crying Pack is $1.99 through the PSN.
  • Many exclusive trophies, such as trophies for the Volleyball mini-game, completion of Insane Mode with any character, and for getting all of the trophies in the game.

The following changes were exclusive on release, but were carried over to later versions:

  • Separate Gold intake. The character you have will have their own Gold count, so there will be no more combined gold intake.
  • Introduction of the Insane Store, which can be used to buy weapons previously exclusive to the King and Necromantic Packs.
  • King, Open-Faced Gray Knight, Necromancer, and Cultist are all unlocked through beating various insane mode levels.
  • Alien is unlocked upon the completion of the Alien Ship level.
  • Removes All You Can Quaff.
  • The Evil Wizard has more health in his 4th phase on Insane Mode.

Strategy

The Saracen’s Magic Projectile (Sand Blast) is unique among the cast. Although it is bad at dealing damage to both normal enemies and bosses, it excels at setting up juggles on light or medium-weight enemies. It sends them straight up and very high, leaving plenty of time to jump in and start juggling. It also always sweeps at ground level, allowing Saracen to start juggles from high up in the air! Here are some setups from Sand Blast:

  • Sand Blast, jump in, juggle
  • Magic jump (not hitting enemy) -> Sand Blast, juggle
  • Slowfall, Light -> Sand Blast -> Heavy -> Heavy, Juggle

The slowfall setup allows Saracen to bring enemies up to him while he flies safely above the battlefield, where they can be juggled with some variation of Light -> Heavy -> Heavy.

Quotes

  • «I’m in your castle.» -Battle starts
  • «I will paint you into a corner.» -When Painter comes down to paint a second time.
  • «My brush is mightier than your sword.» -Entering second phase, painting 2.
  • «My art will be your demise.» -Entering third phase, painting 3.
  • «Abort!» -Entering final phase, running around the battlefield.
  • «Foiled!» -Changing direction during the final phase.
  • «It must have been something I ate…» -Defeat
  • «Abobobobobobobobobobobobobort-» -Spitting out food, and then getting crushed by the chest.
  • «Achievement unlocked, you are a failure.» — Unknown voiceline. Possibly unused.

Magic

«Arrow Rain»

Element:

Max Hits: 1 per upgrade level (max 7)

Damage/Hit: Base Magic Damage x 0.5

Arrows rain down from the sky to in front of the character in sets of three. Each upgrade level adds another set of three arrows. If maxed out and spammed, the Splash can stay out for a while, hitting any enemy or boss that comes towards it. Two things to watch for when using this Splash Attack is that the delay is moderately long for an enemy to slip past it unharmed on say the Scarabs in Desert and again, the delay is long enough for an enemy to get off a hit if you don’t react in time. A total of 8 characters (including Stove Face) share the same exact Splash Attack.

«Knife»

Element:

Damage: Base Magic Damage

A spinning knife used as a Magic Projectile.

«Knife»

Element:

Damage: Base Magic Damage

A spinning knife used as an Air Projectile. An advanced use of Juggling, named Spellweaving, can use this Air Projectile for flashy techniques.

«Armor Pierce»

Element:

Damage: Base Magic Damage^2 + Base Melee Damage^2

Use / to perform. This attack pierces armor, and it deals two times normal damage. That means it deals as much damage to a Barbarian or Thief on Normal Mode as it does to a Stove Face or Cult Minion on Insane Mode.

«Dust Jump»

Element:

Damage: Base Magic Damage

Leaps up with a dust effect that damages overlapped enemies.

Magical Attacks

The Brute, the Barbarian and the Stove Face are three non-elemental characters

Magic as shown in the Magic section of How to Play.

Magic is used to perform non-standard attacks. Elemental magics are specialized and more useful on some targets than others. Non-Elemental magic is general-purpose and will be equally effective on almost every type of enemy. The combos are listed below.

Note: Since your character will always have 1 Skill Point filled for Magic, the Skill Point or Magic Level requirement for the other combos will be listed normally plus the actual cost in game.

Splash Attack

To Perform: + / +/ /

Effect: The Splash Attack deals damage to multiple enemies. As the Magic attribute gets upgraded, more damage and range can be attained (Extra segment every 5 Magic Skill Points). Opponents can’t block most splash attacks with their shields.

Magic Projectile

To Perform: + / +/

Air Projectile

To Perform: ++ / ++/

Effect: A basic mid-air magical attack with a slanted angle of 45° (22 characters total have this trait) or 60° (5 characters total have this trait) with 4 exceptions. Damage increases with Magic level.

Magic Level Requirement: 10 Skill Points (Actual amount of Skill Points into Magic needed: 9 Skill Points)

Elemental Infusion

To Perform: / / /

Castle Crashers не запускается. Ошибка при запуске. Решение

Castle Crashers

Trivia

  • The music that plays throughout this level is called -Swampland- by Waterflame.
  • The 4 NPC Beefy Skeletons actually have less health than their normal counterparts on Insane Mode.
  • This is the only level in the game that NPC Skeletons are immune to Poison.
  • The two Peasants that help the player through the graveyard can be seen dead on the floor after defeating all the skeletons at the Beefy Skeletons Fight, they were presumably killed by the Snakeys.
  • NPC Peasants and Civilians can die in this level.
  • In total, there are 5 Peasants (1 is dead on the ground and the two Peasants that aid you against the Skeletons presumably died to the Snakeys after the Beefy Skeletons Fight) and 2 Civilians (One of the Civilians is a Beefy) in Marsh.
  • Even if the two NPC Peasants die in the graveyard by the Skeletons in Insane Mode, they’ll still run past by the Beefy Skeletons Fight.
  • The Beefy Civilian will not follow the player(s) into the Corn Boss level.
  • This is the only level in the entire game where a boss reappears for the second time to fight, with the same boss mechanics as last time. This time, however, you can’t see how much health the Troll Mother has while fighting it.
  • When The Necromancer revives the dead, one of the Skeletons are dancing.

Types of Combos

Compound combos, as the name suggests, are different combinations of simple combos used to create infinite juggle combos which are most commonly used for combat, or finite juggle combos, which have a more specific purpose. Levitation combos are a special kind of infinite juggle combo that are used for mobility, evasively, but can be used for showing off as well.

Infinite juggle combos are just a compound combo that can be used to trap a light enemy in an infinitely repeated sequence of itself.

Finite juggle combos are filler combos that can be used as desired in infinite juggle combos, or have their own practical use. Sometimes the  button is used in finite juggle combos for special purposes, most often involving the boomerang, but sometimes it can be used for mobility or to end a juggle with the bow and arrow.

Trivia

  1. The music that plays outside of Industrial Prince’s castle is Winterbliss by cycerin. The song sounds similar to Röyksopp’s «Poor Leno» from Melody A.M.
  2. The music that plays inside of the castle is _-={Dark Skies}=-_ by MaestroRage.
  3. The music that plays during the fight against the Industrial Machine is Second Thoughts by DavidOrr.
  4. This level may a reference to the game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (other being the Alien Ship boss). Many of the obstacles which the players have to confront, and the overall design of the level, are very similar to the Technodrome level (stage 5) of that game. The Elemental Turret looks and behaves almost identical to the laser guns in that game. The electric barriers which turn on and off, and which you must carefully cross in between, also make an appearance. And the elevator ride looks almost identical too (although here it goes up, and in the «Turtles» game it goes down).
  5. It is possible to rush through the electric fence area, but with max agility and perfect timing.
  6. It is up to the player whether they play this or Lava World first because when you beat the Cyclops’ Fortress level you unlock Volcano Store.
  7. This level is one of the few levels where the works after the game patch but only in the Original versions of Castle Crashers.
  8. This level may be challenging for Hatty Hattington players.
  9. In the game on Roblox, called Tower Defense Simulator, a remix of the song Winterbliss is heard during The Frost Event called It’s Getting Frosty

Magic

«Thorny Vines»

Element:

Max Hits: 1 per upgrade level (max 7)

Damage/Hit: Base Magic Damage x 0.5

Thorny Vines pop out of the ground almost instantaneously in front of you, doing one hit each. Each segment adds an extra hit, with the maximum being 7 hits. Every other segments add no range, but all segments add an extra hit. This is incredibly good for bosses that have huge hitboxes as the Splash Attack deals a decent amount every time it is spammed or that it delivers significantly more hits on them than say Skeleton and Cult Minion’s Dark Pillars Splash Attack. This Splash Attack is also very effective on enemies that take chain damage such as Scarabs, Fish Men, and Beefys. Brute and Snakey share the same Splash Attack.

«Acorn Toss»

Element:

Damage: Base Magic Damage

Throws an acorn as a Magic Projectile.

«Acorn Toss»

Element:

Damage: Base Magic Damage

Throws an acorn as a Air Projectile. An advanced use of Juggling, called Spellweaving, can use this Air Projectile for flashy techniques.

«Vine Jump»

Element:

Damage: Base Magic Damage

Leaps up using a vine that damages overlapped enemies and has a whip sound.

  • Aliens provide references to the game they appeared in, in the 2002 and 2004 games titled Alien Hominid.
    • Aliens being killed in one hit is a reference to Alien Hominid and classic shoot ’em ups such as Metal Slug.
    • The buff in health from the Necromancer fight on Insane Mode could be a reference to the Alien Prisoner. The Alien Prisoner, the final boss of Alien Hominid, is a buffed Alien that takes longer to kill. The Alien Prisoner also makes a reappearance in Alien Ship, but does not have the same physique as the final boss from Alien Hominid.
    • The «Comet» Splash Attack is a reference to the Alien’s charge laser attack in Alien Hominid.
    • The «Laser Gun» Magic Projectile and Air Projectile is a reference to the Alien’s regular laser attack in Alien Hominid.
    • In addition, both the «Comet» Splash Attack and «Laser Gun» Magic Projectile and Air Projectile have a similar fire rate to that seen of the Alien’s regular laser gun in Alien Hominid.
    • The «Tractor Beam» Magic Jump is a reference to the Alien’s use of the tractor beam when in alien ships in some appearances in Alien Hominid.

  • Alien is a mixed character. It is the only character of its type to have both Fire and Non-Elemental Magic.
  • Alien is one of only two characters in the game that use objects for shields, instead of an actual shield, the Alien uses a grenade, and Ninja uses the mug of ale.
  • Alien, prior to Title Update 2 in the Xbox 360 Version of the game, used to have a , in the «Armor Pierce» Elemental Infusion. It was around the range of Conehead, Royal Guard, and Gray Knight in terms of viability.
  • He’s the only character to not switch weapons, but he can switch to a pitchfork by doing the pitchfork glitch.
